Study Abroad
In the summer of 2023, I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad in Antwerp with James Madison University while completing COB 300 — a 12-credit-hour core course that all JMU business students must take before diving into their upper-level classes. COB 300 integrates finance, management, marketing, and operations, and getting to experience it while studying abroad made it even more impactful.
It was truly one of the best experiences of my life. Not only did I grow academically and professionally, but I also traveled every weekend, exploring new cultures, trying new foods, and creating unforgettable memories. Below, I share just a few of the amazing places I was lucky enough to visit!
Antwerp
Antwerp, Belgium, is a city full of charm, history, and culture. It’s known for its world-famous Belgian waffles, rich chocolate, and stunning medieval architecture. As the diamond capital of the world, Antwerp has a vibrant fashion and arts scene, with cobblestone streets lined with boutiques, cafés, and galleries. The city offers the perfect mix of old-world beauty and modern energy, making it an unforgettable place to live and learn.

London, England
In London, there’s something for everyone — from iconic sights like the London Eye and Tower Bridge to world-class museums and West End shows. I loved taking a classic red double-decker bus ride and grabbing fish and chips by the Thames. One fun fact I learned while exploring: the London Underground is the oldest subway system in the world, opening way back in 1863!

Alicante, Spain
Alicante is the perfect beach town with beautiful Mediterranean views, vibrant nightlife, and amazing local food. One of my favorite things was hiking up to Santa Bárbara Castle for panoramic views of the coast. I also learned that Alicante gets around 300 days of sunshine a year, which totally explains the city’s warm, laid-back vibe.

Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam is known for its charming canals, cozy cafes, and rich history. I took a canal cruise at sunset, biked through the city, and visited the Anne Frank House and Van Gogh Museum. Something cool I discovered: there are more bikes than people in Amsterdam — over 800,000! It truly is a biking city like no other.

Bruges, Belgium
Bruges felt like stepping into a storybook with its medieval buildings, cobblestone streets, and winding canals. I climbed the Belfry Tower, sampled fresh waffles, and took a peaceful boat ride through the canals. Bruges is often called the “Venice of the North” — and once you're there, it’s easy to see why.

Zurich, Switzerland
Zurich was one of the cleanest and most beautiful cities I visited. I explored the Old Town, tried delicious Swiss fondue, and relaxed by Lake Zurich with the Alps in the distance. I found out Zurich is regularly ranked among the top cities in the world for quality of life!
